Lilongwe-based reggae dancehall artist Rejected has released a new song, “Yangolowa,” which encourages lovers to invest in their relationships by treating each other well, thus preventing unexpected separations. In a vivid metaphor, he likens this to a domestic duck that leaves its barn unnoticed in search of a more comforting space.
“Yangolowa” has quickly become a favorite in various communities nationwide, often played during events to uplift spirits. Whether performed a cappella or with traditional drums, the song captures the essence of celebration.
However, Rejected has modernized it by infusing a dancehall vibe with cheerful instrumentation, creating a sound as vibrant as a festival celebration.
In a recent conversation with Malawi24, Rejected emphasized the track’s powerful message. He explained that the chorus, “Sinayigwire, manja anga ndi awa; yangolowa,” suggests that a domestic chicken (symbolizing a lover) has departed for another person.
This brings us to a poignant realization: he acknowledged that the accused individual is said to have enticed the chicken into their home, yet there is no proof they forced the chicken to leave.
As the “Towera” star concluded, he stressed the importance of a holistic approach in relationships to prevent such occurrences.
He further explained that if couples treat each other well, no one would want to leave unprofessionally, reminding them that “love is a two-way street.”
The song “Yangolowa” has been Produced by Tk More and is currently available on YouTube.
