Malawian singer and songwriter Tuno, known for her unique blend of Afro and RnB sounds, has announced that she is stepping away from music and social media after years of enduring cyberbullying, bodyshaming, and constant criticism.

In an emotional statement shared online, the talented artist expressed her deep frustration with the relentless negativity she has faced throughout her career.
> “I am tired of you Malawians always finding fault in everything that I do. This whole week all you’ve done is bodyshame me, kundinyoza. Kundithera mau, and in my years of music that’s all you’ve done… I have had enough, A MALAWI PAMALIRO ANGA MUSAZALIRE MUZAPITILIZE KUNYOZA!!!!” – Tuno wrote.
According to Tuno, the bullying did not start with her music career but dates back to her school days, making her journey even more difficult. Despite the challenges, she credits the few supporters who showed her love over the years for keeping her going. However, she admits that the constant hate has taken its toll on her mental health and passion for music.
Since 2016, Tuno has worked hard to establish herself as one of the few female voices pushing Afro and RnB music in Malawi. Her unique style and emotional delivery made her stand out in a male-dominated industry, but unfortunately, the weight of online hate has overshadowed much of her progress.
Her announcement has sparked conversations across Malawian social media platforms, with fans and fellow artists expressing mixed emotions—some offering support, while others reflect on the damaging culture of cyberbullying in Malawi’s music scene.
Tuno’s decision serves as a reminder of the mental health struggles artists face when subjected to constant public scrutiny. It also calls on fans and communities to reflect on the role they play in either uplifting or destroying local talent.
As Tuno takes this step back, one thing remains clear: her impact on Malawi’s music industry will not be forgotten, and the conversation she has sparked may just open doors for change in how artists are treated.
